Jake Epstein is currently on tour with Spring Awakening, but he recently did an interview in which he talked about his Degrassi past and where he sees himself in the future. When asked which Degrassi cast members he still hangs out with, he had this to say in response:
Well, I see them all the time when I’m in Toronto. Honestly, I’d say the people I’m really good friends with (are) Paula Brancati, who actually did “Dog Sees God” with me, and Jake Goldsbie, who has remained one of my best friends. And then again, I see them all the time. I definitely keep in touch with them all, because they’re good people. Last year we shot the “Degrassi” movie so I got to hang out with all of them again, which was cool.
Just a heads up to everyone that Much Music did not air “Beat It” tonight. Instead, they showed a rerun of “Just Can’t Get Enough” Part 1 & 2. Unfortunately, it looks like we’ll be waiting until Sunday for “Beat It” to premiere.
However I did manage to get this Degrassi promo from Much Music. It contains a few new clips & spoilers.
Charlotte Arnold wrote a great article for TV Guide about the much anticipated upcoming 2 part episode “Beat It.” In the article Charlotte connects the two main storylines of the episode (Riley’s struggles with his sexuality and Anya’s newfound hobby LARPing) to the theme of self acceptance. “So the moral of this story is let’s just all learn to love ourselves no matter how gay or LARPy we are, shall we?” Charlotte writes. Read the full article right here! It contains a few minor spoilers.
Much Music still has “Beat It” listed in their online schedule for tomorrow night. So if you are Canadian, you might want to turn on your TV tomorrow at 8pm ET just in case.
A new trailer has been released for Stacey Farber’s new show “18 to Life.” Stacey stars alongside Michael Seater in this half hour comedy series which is set to premiere on CBC this January. No US network has picked up the series yet.
The Industry Gala for the Gemini Awards took place tonight, and we’ve just received word that Eleanor Lindo won a Gemini for Best Director in a Youth Program or Series for Degrassi episode 803 “Fight the Power.” Congratulations to her!!! As well, Stacey and Paula were both nominated for Best Performance in a Youth Program or Series, but they lost to Michael Seater who won for Life with Derek.
The Gemini Awards TV Broadcast Gala will be taking place on Nov. 14th. Hopefully a few Degrassi cast members will be in attendance.
Degrassi pulled in 608 000 viewers on CTV last Sunday! That’s the kind of numbers we were seeing for Degrassi back in season 6!! Hopefully Degrassi can keep this up, and maybe even jump higher in the ratings when CTV airs the much anticipated Riley episode in 2 weeks.
No word yet on the exact ratings for Degrassi on TeenNick, but we have heard that the show is doing very well and its ratings are very high.
Screencaps from “Shoot to Thrill” and “You Be Illin’” now in the gallery! Click the thumbnails for more. You can also check out some HQ season 7&8 promotional stills provided for us by Joa
CTV will not be airing a new episode next Sunday, Oct. 25th. Instead, CTV will air “Beat It” (the Riley 2 part episode that everyone is so excited about) the following Sunday (Nov. 1st). According to Much Music’s schedule, currently they have “Beat It” listed for Oct. 26th. However I’m not sure if this is just a mistake on their part, because I can’t see them airing the episode before CTV does. I’ll keep an eye out and let everyone know soon!
TeenNick will air its next new episode (904 - “Close to Me”) as scheduled this Friday.
Last night ET Canada and eTalk each aired segments about the next Degrassi movie to be aired at the end of season 9. After the success of Degrassi Goes Hollywood, this movie features different Degrassi characters and takes place in New York. These segments include interviews with the cast as well as clips of them shooting the movie.
